You hold my hand while I walk through this wicked land
And I always feel so protected
And you reward me with green pastures
That’s filled with fruit of your love

How did you create engaging content in the early stages?
Fortunately, I was able to create engaging content simply by writing freestyle poetry. The way I write my poetry has no strategic plan or structure—it's not planned at all. It just comes to me, I write it down, and wah-lah! Art! Luckily, my feelings and life experiences resonate with my peers and keep them interested.
How did you deal with skepticism or doubt from others when you started your journey?
I didn’t encounter much skepticism or doubt, but I did face it on occasion. A pivotal moment was when I wrote a Juneteenth poem that received some criticism for being vague. I understood the feedback and realized that I needed to be more detailed in my work. This experience taught me that not everyone will like everything you do or how you do it, and that's okay.
How did your breakthrough impact your confidence and drive?
I'm so thankful for the encouraging leaders in my community who gave me opportunities to perform at shows and events when I was just starting out. They always told me to keep going because I could only get better—and that’s exactly what happened.
How do your current projects reflect your growth and evolution as an artist?
Now, I’m organizing my own poetry and talent showcases, which is a testament to my evolution from a budding poetess. I’m focused on shining a light on the talent I see around me and spreading the word about their incredible work.
What daily habits can help me stay focused on my goals?
Yoga! That’s my favorite thing to do. It helps clear my mind and provides the release I need to get into a creative space mentally. Stretching and breathing exercises keep me focused on creating and achieving my goals.
