Paula Sima

How did your early experiences or background contribute to your decision to enter this field?

My early experiences were deeply shaped by my family, who always led by example in pursuing their passions and following their hearts. My father, a lawyer, transitioned into business to pursue his true passion, and my mother moved countries to chase her dreams. I watched my older brother persistently pursue his ambitions despite challenges, while my sister demonstrated resilience by betting on herself and never letting setbacks deter her. My younger brother made the bold decision to quit his job and move to another country because that path felt right for him. Additionally, my uncle and aunt have been inspiring role models, excelling in their careers with authenticity and humility.

These experiences instilled in me the belief that personal growth comes from taking risks, embracing change, and pursuing what feels true to oneself. My background, enriched by my family’s unwavering support and strength, has undoubtedly influenced my decision to enter this field and continues to shape my journey.

What was the most unexpected challenge you faced early on, and how did you address it?

One of the most unexpected challenges I faced early on was the realization that support—whether mental, physical, or financial—was not as readily available as I had anticipated. I assumed that having a large network of friends and acquaintances would naturally translate into support, but I quickly learned that not everyone shares the same mindset or willingness to help.

This was a difficult lesson, especially when it came to friends I expected would be the first to offer encouragement. However, rather than dwelling on the lack of support from certain individuals, I chose to focus on finding and aligning myself with communities that genuinely reciprocated my efforts.

These relationships have become a source of true support and have shaped how I approach my work. I’m grateful for learning this early on, as it has allowed me to move forward with clarity and purpose, without seeking validation from those who do not contribute to my growth.

How did your breakthrough impact your confidence and drive?

Confidence has always been a part of who I am, but after my breakthrough, it certainly reached new heights. It was an affirming moment that validated the work I had put in and showed me that I am capable of achieving even more.

My drive has intensified as a result—realizing how much I’ve accomplished has fueled a deeper determination to push myself even harder. Being recognized for my efforts served as a powerful reminder that, even if I don’t always see immediate results, others are watching, inspired, and motivated by what I’m doing.

It was a wake-up call, reinforcing my commitment to my goals and reminding me of the power I have to make an impact.

How do your current projects challenge you in new ways compared to your past work?

In the past, my projects were largely a personal outlet—something I did for fun and to pass the time. However, as I deepened my involvement, I developed a genuine passion for what I was creating. Over time, I transitioned from simply working on projects for myself to building a brand that reflects my values and beliefs. This shift brought new challenges, particularly in terms of creativity.

I was no longer just creating for personal satisfaction, but for an audience that believed in me and my brand. This required me to push myself creatively, ensuring that I delivered work that was not only meaningful but also aligned with the standards and expectations of those who support me.

The challenge has been refining my creativity to meet the demands of my brand and deliver something truly valuable and worthy.

How important is persistence in achieving success, and how can one cultivate it?

Persistence is fundamental to achieving success. It ultimately comes down to how determined you are and how much you're willing to endure to reach your goals.

The path to success is rarely smooth; setbacks, rejections, and challenges are inevitable. You may face obstacles such as unsupportive friends or family, financial strain, and missed opportunities before you begin to see progress. However, persistence allows you to push through these difficulties.

To cultivate persistence, it’s essential to have a clear understanding of your 'why'—your purpose and motivation for pursuing your goals. When your purpose is deeply rooted, it becomes the driving force that helps you remain persistent, even in the face of adversity.
